South American Folk Art Collage

Collection includes: five South American pieces (as shown)

Every time I look at these textiles, called arpilleras, I notice something new.  In the bigger one, the river is filled with piranhas and yet a woman is washing clothes in the water without fear. Traditionally, these pieces tell a story, and sometimes the story is as it appears on fabric and sometimes there is more to it. Either way, the maker grants us a peek into her life. The combination of carved objects and stitched textiles creates a visual statement that will sweep you away to another continent.

  • Arpillera, signed by artists, pieced and stitched by hand, from South America, depicting a vibrant village scene full of burros, banana trees, smoking chimneys, cotton crops, girls in braids, and more and more (larger is 33"w x 27.5"h and smaller is 31"w x 10.5"h)
  • Shovel, wood, hand-carved, vintage in excellent condition (10.75"w x 35.25"h)
  • Masks, pair, wood, hand-carved, vintage in excellent condition (each 8"w x 17.5"h)

Overall collage as shown measures 56"w x 39.25"h

Shipping costs are included. Also, please note that everything I sell, and I mean everything, is used, antique, vintage, etc. That means sometimes scratched, dented, and worn. Imperfect. Not dusty, though. Or dirty.
